Free Fall into Winter Nature Hike at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve

November 18, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Friends of Edgewood on a guided hike to learn how fall and winter set the stage for springtime at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve.

Edgewood is famous for its spring flowers and wildlife, but fall and winter is when much of the foundation for this spring extravaganza is being laid:

  • Animals preparing for winter
  • Plants dispersing their seeds
  • Ecosystems emerging from the dog days of summer

Join us on Saturday, November 18th to take a walk on the wild side with Friends of Edgewood docent Steve Crawford for a fall hike at Edgewood to explore what native Californian plants and animals are doing this time of year.

We’ll cover about 3 miles at a moderate pace and make frequent stops to take a closer look at what we find along the trail. Elevation gain is approximately 400 feet. This hike is geared toward adults and older children interested in learning more about plants found in San Mateo County’s only natural preserve.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Consider sunscreen, a hat, and snacks. Restrooms and water are available only at the picnic area near the Sylvan Trailhead. Please plan ahead. Note that Edgewood’s many narrow trails cannot accommodate strollers.

All participants, including children, must be registered individually and have approved the liability waiver through Eventbrite. Details on where to meet will be emailed to participants before the event.

We will still hike in light showers, but heavy rain cancels this hike.

Group size is very limited. Please cancel your reservation if you are unable to attend so others may have a chance to join us.
