“Impossible to pigeonhole, Wiley can generate blowtorch heat in just about any context” — San Jose Mercury News

Saxophonist and composer Howard Wiley fuses jazz with funk, a “jazz you can dance to.”

AllAboutJazz writes, “Wiley found himself playing in the most nurturing of all environments for young African American musicians; the church. Throughout the history of jazz, the church has been root and center of the community, giving musicians, worshipers, and preachers alike the freedom and comfort to express themselves in the celebration of life. Wiley’s music is a direct reflection of his youth which gives his music a level of simplicity, honesty and integrity. He has developed into a very complete artist in the sense that he possesses a great awareness of the past while he continues to make statements and ask questions into the future.”

He has performed at the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Fest, Blue Note Club, Madrone Art Bar, Cape Town Jazz Festival, the Grammy Museum, Yoshi’s Oakland, Malcolm X Jazz Festival, Sonoma Jazz Festival, Smalls NY and SXSW.

Wiley served as an SFJAZZ resident artistic director for the 2023-24 season.

We’ll pour tastes of our wines, and we invite you to bring a picnic. Wine will also be available for purchase by the bottle.

The concert begins at 6pm. We’re open from 5:00 to 8:00. Picnic tables are not available; feel free to bring a blanket to spread on the ground, or beach chairs. Please consider carpooling or bicycling, as parking is very limited.
