King Tide Bike Ride 2024

February 10 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

SVBC’s third annual ride to see the highest tides of the year on our South Bay Shoreline!

Ever wonder what a King Tide is? And, did you know that Alviso was once the transportation hub of Santa Clara County, called the Port of San Jose? Come ride with us as we explore nature and history on the Alviso/King Tide Ride.

We’ll be joined by Valley Water District Director, Dick Santos, an expert on water policy. Director Santos was born and raised in historic Alviso and will be on hand to share the story of this remote and often forgotten San Jose enclave.

We’ll meet at the cul de sac at the end of Riveroaks Place in San Jose and enjoy a casual, family-friendly ride up the Guadalupe Trail. Our ride will be about 7 miles in total. Don’t be surprised when you see several majestic Great Egrets in addition to the natural beauty of the Guadalupe River.

All rides are no-drop, with ride support always alongside the newest riders.

Event Agenda:

– 9:30 AM – The event begins at Riverview Park in North San José.

– 10:30 AM – Arrive at Alviso Marina for presentation and speakers followed by bike ride through Alviso Neighborhood with fascinating historical context.

– 1:00 PM – Arrive back to Riverview Park

If your organization focuses on climate change, sea level rise, climate resiliency, wetlands habitat, or other climate-related South Bay initiatives, please email [email protected] to co-host, present, or join us!

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition staff will provide free bike safety checks, helmet fitting, free bike lights, offer light bike repair, and run a safe, supportive, family-friendly group ride.
