Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Community Day

October 14, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free Public Community Day at Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge

The Open Space Authority’s public Community Celebration at the newly opened Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve invites everyone to enjoy a fun, free family-friendly day filled with festivities.

All ages are welcome to come and learn about the unique habitat and wildlife found at the preserve, enjoy nature, and celebrate as a community.

Festivities include guided hikes and activities, booths from partner organizations, arts and crafts, butterfly wing decorating and costume parade for the kiddos, story times, and much more.

Activities

  • Flutterby Crafts Corner: Let your creativity soar at our craft corner! Kids can design their own butterfly wings. They’ll be fluttering with excitement!
  • Wild Storytime: Gather ‘round for enchanting tales about nature and wildlife in the heart of the preserve.
  • Toddler Trek: Take your littlest explorers for a family-friendly guided nature walk around the preserve’s new Máyyan Wáayi Overlook Trail.
  • Butterfly Costume Parade: Halloween is just around the corner. Transform your little ones into enchanting butterflies! Create and don colorful costumes and join the parade through the preserve led by our honorary butterfly ambassadors.
  • Activity and Info Booths: Get to know some of our nature besties! Booths from Bay Area Ridge Trail, Coyote Valley Conservation Area Master Plan, and more to be announced!
  • Docent-led Hike: Led by expert naturalist docents, let’s explore the new trails and learn about the history, plants, and animals of this unique landscape. Before heading out, the hike will begin with a land acknowledgement from the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area.
